Pricing + Estimates
How does your flat-rate pricing work?
Before we touch anything, we diagnose the problem and give you one flat price.
That’s the price you pay and it doesn’t change based on how long the job takes or what time of day it is. No hourly surprises, no invoice that looks different from what we quoted. You approve the price, we do the work. Simple as that.
Do you charge for estimates or coming out to take a look?
Yes $96. We come out, assess the problem, and give you a clear upfront price before starting any work. There’s no charge for the diagnosis if you move forward with the repair. If you decide not to proceed that’s completely fine — we’d rather earn your trust than pressure you into a decision you’re not comfortable with.
Are there extra charges for weekend or after-hours service?
Emergency calls outside normal business hours may carry a different rate — we’ll always be upfront about that before we come out so there are never any surprises on your invoice.
How much does a plumber cost in Cookeville, TN?
Plumbing costs vary widely depending on the job. A simple drain cleaning typically runs less than replacing a water heater, which costs less than a slab leak repair. What we can promise is that our pricing is flat-rate and transparent. You’ll know the full cost before we start.
We’d rather give you a real number on the phone than make you wait for a surprise invoice. Call us and describe what you’re dealing with and then we can often give you a rough range before we even come out.
Do you offer any financing options?
For larger jobs like water heater replacements or slab leak repairs, financing options may be available. Call us to discuss, we want to find a solution that works for your situation.
We’ll never recommend more work than your home actually needs, and we’ll always give you honest advice about what can wait versus what needs to be addressed now.
Do all service areas get the same pricing?
We serve Cookeville and the surrounding Putnam County area including Algood, Baxter, Monterey, Sparta, Livingston, Crossville, and Gainesboro. Not sure if you’re in our service area? Just call — if we can’t help you we’ll point you in the right direction.
Scheduling + Availability
How quickly can you come out?
For most jobs in Cookeville and Putnam County we offer same-day scheduling. For areas further out in our service radius we can typically get to you within one to two business days.
For genuine emergencies — burst pipes, major leaks, anything that can’t wait — call us directly and we’ll do everything we can to reach you that day, regardless of where you are in our coverage area.
Do I have to be home for the appointment?
Yes — we require an adult to be present so we can walk through the problem together, explain what we find, and review the price with you before starting any work.
This is how we keep things transparent. We’ll send you a heads-up call or text before we arrive so you’re not stuck waiting around. We respect your time as much as our own.
What are your hours?
We’re available Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm, and Saturdays from 8:00am to 4:00pm. For genuine plumbing emergencies outside those hours, call us — we do our best to respond. Sundays are for emergency calls only.
How do I schedule service?
Three ways — call us at (931) 239-4345, text us at the same number, or fill out the form on our contact or schedule page.
Whichever you choose, you’ll hear back from a real person within one hour during business hours. We’ll confirm a time, tell you who’s coming, and send you a heads-up when we’re on the way.
Will I know who is coming to my home before they arrive?
Yes. When we confirm your appointment we’ll tell you who will be coming out. We’ll also send a text or call before arrival.
Every Crest Plumbing technician is background checked and insured — and they show up in a clearly marked truck wearing a uniform. You should always know exactly who is walking into your home.
Our Process + What to Expect
What happens when a Crest Plumbing technician arrives at my home?
Your technician will introduce themselves, put on shoe covers before entering, and ask to see the problem. They’ll take time to assess the issue properly — we don’t rush to a diagnosis.
Once they understand what’s going on they’ll explain it to you in plain language, give you an upfront flat-rate price, and answer any questions you have before starting any work. Nothing happens without your approval.
Do you clean up after the job?
Always. We treat your home with respect. That means shoe covers when we enter, protecting surfaces while we work, and leaving the job site cleaner than we found it.
If we open a wall or pull up flooring as part of the repair, we’ll discuss what that process looks like and what to expect before we start. We won’t leave a mess and walk out the door.
What if I'm not satisfied with the work?
We follow up after every job, not as a formality, but because we actually care that you’re happy. If something isn’t right, call us and we’ll come back to make it right at no additional cost.
Our reputation in this community is everything to us. We’re not interested in doing a job and disappearing. We want to be your plumber for life.
Do you use subcontractors?
No. Every technician who shows up is a Crest Plumbing employee who is vetted, trained, and accountable to us directly. We don’t hand your job off to someone we don’t know.
That’s not something every plumbing company can say, but it’s something we take seriously. When you hire Crest Plumbing, you know exactly who is doing the work.
Do you offer any kind of warranty on your work?
Yes. We stand behind our work. The specific warranty terms depend on the type of job — parts typically carry the manufacturer’s warranty, and our labor is guaranteed.
We’ll explain the warranty for your specific job before we start so you know exactly what’s covered. If something we repaired fails, call us — we’ll take care of it.
Services We Offer
What plumbing services do you offer?
We offer drain cleaning, water heater repair and replacement, leak repair and slab leak detection, whole-home water filtration and softeners, kitchen and bathroom plumbing, fixture installation, and emergency plumbing services.
We focus exclusively on residential plumbing so we can do it exceptionally well rather than spread ourselves too thin.
Do you work on older homes?
Yes. We work on homes of all ages throughout Putnam County and the surrounding area. Older homes often have cast iron pipes, galvanized steel, or outdated fixtures and we’re experienced with all of it.
If we find something unexpected during a job we’ll stop, show you what we found, and talk through your options before proceeding. No surprises.
Should I repair or replace my water heater?
It depends on the age, the problem, and the cost of the repair. As a general rule — if your water heater is under 8 years old and the repair is straightforward, repair usually makes sense.
If it’s over 10–12 years old or the repair cost is more than half the price of a new unit, replacement is often the smarter investment. We’ll give you an honest recommendation either way — we’re not here to sell you a new water heater you don’t need.
What's the difference between a tank and tankless water heater?
A traditional tank water heater stores and heats a fixed amount of hot water — typically 40–50 gallons. A tankless unit heats water on demand as it flows through, so you never run out but the upfront cost is higher.
Tankless units last longer and are more energy efficient, but they’re not the right choice for every home or every budget. We’ll help you think through which makes more sense for your situation without pushing you toward the more expensive option if it isn’t the right fit.
How do I know if I have a slab leak?
Common signs include an unexplained spike in your water bill, warm or wet spots on your floor, the sound of running water when everything is turned off, or cracks in your baseboards or flooring.
Slab leaks can cause serious structural damage if left untreated. If you notice any of these signs, don’t wait — call us and we’ll come out and assess it using leak detection equipment before recommending any repair.
Do you install new fixtures, faucets, and toilets?
Yes. We handle all types of fixture installation — faucets, toilets, showerheads, garbage disposals, and more. You can supply the fixture yourself or we can source one for you. Either way we’ll make sure it’s installed correctly and everything is working properly before we leave.
Do you offer water testing or water quality assessments?
Yes. Before recommending any water filtration or softening system we assess your water first. We want to recommend what you actually need — not just the most expensive system. If your water is fine we’ll tell you that too.
Honesty is the foundation of what we do, and that applies to every recommendation we make.
Do you handle plumbing for bathroom or kitchen remodels?
Yes. We work on kitchen and bathroom remodels doing rough-in plumbing, fixture installations, relocating supply and drain lines, and more.
If you’re planning a remodel and need a plumber you can count on to show up on schedule and do the work right, we’d love to be part of your project. Reach out early in the planning process so we can coordinate properly with your timeline.
About Crest Plumbing
Are you licensed and insured in Tennessee?
Yes. Crest Plumbing is fully licensed as an LLP and insured in the state of Tennessee. Our license number is available on request and is listed in the footer of this website. Every technician is background checked. You should feel completely confident having us in your home.
Who will answer when I call Crest Plumbing?
Jeff or a member of the Crest Plumbing customer service team. We don’t use answering services, call centers, or automated phone trees.
When you call (931) 239-4345 you reach us directly. If we’re on a job and miss your call we’ll call you back as soon as we can, usually within the hour.
Why should I choose Crest over a larger company?
Because when you call a franchise you get whoever is available. When you call Crest you get someone who was hired specifically because they share the same values Jeff built this company on. We’re not trying to be the biggest plumbing company in Cookeville, we’re working to be the most trusted one.
That means flat-rate pricing you can count on, clear communication before during and after every job, work that actually holds up, and a follow-up call to make sure you’re happy. Those aren’t things you’ll find at a call center.
Is Crest Plumbing locally owned?
Yes, 100%. Crest Plumbing is owned and operated by Jeff right here in Cookeville, Tennessee.
We’re not a franchise, we’re not part of a national chain, and there’s no corporate office making decisions about how we treat our customers. When you hire Crest you’re supporting a local business and a local family who is invested in this community for the long haul.
What are your core values?
Excellence in the Ordinary — we’re faithful in the small things and our work is built to last.
Family First — we work to provide for our families and to serve yours the best we can.
Righteous Living — character matters especially when no one is looking.
Personal Agency — we manage our time and energy so we can show up fully for every customer.
Clear Communication — we communicate freely and honestly to build relationships built on trust.
Pursuit of Wisdom — we’re always learning how to serve you better. These aren’t words on a wall. They’re the standard we hold ourselves to every single day.
Service Areas for Plumbing Near Cookeville TN
What areas do you serve around Cookeville?
We serve Cookeville and a 40-mile radius covering Putnam, White, Cumberland, Overton, Jackson, Fentress, Smith, Warren, and DeKalb counties.
That includes Algood, Baxter, Monterey, Sparta, Crossville, Livingston, Gainesboro, Jamestown, Carthage, McMinnville, and Smithville among others. If you’re not sure whether we cover your area just call. If we can’t help you we’ll be honest about that and try to point you to someone trustworthy who can.
Do you charge extra for travel outside Cookeville?
No. Our flat-rate pricing is consistent throughout our entire service area. You pay for the job, not for where you live. The only time distance might factor in is if a job in a more remote area requires materials to be specially sourced, and we’d discuss that with you upfront before doing anything.
How quickly can you reach me if I'm in Crossville or Sparta?
For standard scheduled jobs in our extended service area we can typically get to you within one to two business days.
For urgent situations we’ll do everything we can to get there the same day — call us directly and we’ll give you an honest answer about timing. We’d rather tell you the truth than promise something we can’t deliver.
My town isn't on your list — can you still help?
Possibly. Just call and tell us where you are. If you’re within a reasonable distance from Cookeville we’ll come out.
If you’re too far for us to serve well we’ll be straight with you and do our best to point you toward someone trustworthy. We won’t send you on a wild goose chase — if we can help, we will. If we can’t, we’ll tell you that and still try to be useful.
Plumbing Emergencies
What counts as a plumbing emergency?
A plumbing emergency is anything that’s actively causing damage to your home or poses a safety risk — a burst pipe, a major leak you can’t stop, sewage backup, no water at all, or a gas smell near plumbing lines. If you’re in doubt, call us.
We’d rather you call and it turns out to be something minor than wait and have a small problem turn into a major one. We won’t make you feel bad for calling.
What should I do while waiting for the plumber to arrive?
If water is actively flowing where it shouldn’t be, shut off the water supply to your home immediately. Your main shutoff valve is usually near your water meter — often in the basement, crawl space, or outside near the foundation. If it’s a water heater issue, switch off the water heater to prevent further damage.
If you smell gas, leave the house immediately and call your gas company before calling us. Once things are stabilized, call us and we’ll walk you through next steps on the phone until we arrive.
Do you respond to emergencies on weekends?
Saturday is a normal business day for us — 8am to 4pm. For genuine emergencies on Sunday or after hours, call us at (931) 239-4345. We do our best to respond.
We won’t promise something we can’t always guarantee, but we won’t leave you stranded if there’s any way we can help. If we truly cannot make it, we’ll try to help you find someone who can.
How do I shut off my water in an emergency?
Every home has a main water shutoff valve — knowing where it is before an emergency happens is one of the most important things a homeowner can do.
In most Cookeville-area homes it’s located near where the water line enters the house — in the basement, crawl space, utility room, or sometimes outside near the foundation.
Turn it clockwise to shut off the water supply to the entire house. Individual fixtures also have their own shutoff valves underneath sinks and behind toilets. If you’re not sure where yours is, call us and we’ll help you find it.
Water Quality + Water Filtration
Is Cookeville tap water safe to drink?
The City of Cookeville’s water meets all state and federal drinking water standards. That said, “safe” and “ideal” aren’t always the same thing.
Many Cookeville homeowners notice their water has a taste or smell, or notice scale buildup on fixtures and appliances — signs of harder water.
A whole-home filtration or softening system can dramatically improve the taste and quality of your water and extend the life of your appliances and plumbing. We can test your water and give you an honest recommendation on whether a system would actually benefit your home.
How do I know if I need a water softener?
Signs you may benefit from a water softener include white or chalky scale buildup on faucets and showerheads, dishes coming out of the dishwasher spotty or filmy, dry itchy skin after showering, or soap that doesn’t lather well.
Hard water is very common in Tennessee and it silently shortens the lifespan of your water heater, dishwasher, and washing machine. We test your water first before recommending anything — if you don’t need a softener we’ll tell you that plainly.
What's the difference between a water softener and a water filter?
A water softener specifically addresses hard water by removing calcium and magnesium minerals that cause scale buildup.
A water filter removes contaminants like chlorine, sediment, and other impurities that affect taste and safety. Some systems do both. What you actually need depends on what’s in your water — which is why we always test first. We’ll explain exactly what we find and recommend only what makes sense for your situation.
Why does my water smell like rotten eggs?
A sulfur or rotten egg smell in your water is almost always caused by hydrogen sulfide gas — a naturally occurring compound that’s especially common in well water in Tennessee.
It’s generally not dangerous at low levels but it’s unpleasant and can indicate other water quality issues worth addressing.
A whole-home filtration system typically resolves it. If you’re on city water and noticing this smell, call us — it could point to a water heater issue or something in your pipes worth having someone look at.
